Default Broken iPod? Help please.

My ipod is less than a month old and ive been using it regularly with no problems. Just a little while ago i turned the shuffle feature on (for the first time). I did not like the current song and clicked over to next. The screen froze in midst of changing tracks. It is still stuck. Pressing buttons does nothing. I plugged it in to its charger and it does not do anything (not even charge). I plugged it into my computer to try to reset it, but the computer tells me to "plug in an ipod to reset/update", so its not recognizing it either.

Help? Advice? Mommy?

Reset it. I'm guessing this is a 4G, so you do this by holding down the Menu and the select buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
