Default Ace on the button (first post).

Hello to all. I've been lurking here for a while, and thanks to the advice of SSHE and this forum, I'm up 2 BB/100 over my first 7K hands. Thank you to all. This is my first hand post, and it's something I'm never quite sure about, primarily the pre-flop play.

Party Poker 0.5/1 Hold'em (9 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is Button with 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
UTG folds, UTG+1 folds, MP1 calls, MP2 folds, MP3 folds, CO folds, Hero raises, SB folds, BB folds, MP1 calls.

(MP1 has a VP$IP around 60%, so I tried to isolate him. Good idea?)

Flop: (5.50 SB) J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
MP1 checks, Hero bets, MP1 raises, Hero calls.

(3-bet here? Or wait to pop him on the turn?)

Turn: (4.75 BB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
MP1 bets, Hero raises, MP1 3-bets, Hero caps, MP1 calls.

(No cap here, considering my weak kicker?)

River: (12.75 BB) 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
MP1 bets, Hero calls.

(Figuring this is a split at best.)

Final Pot: 14.75 BB

Edited 1/6 to correct spelling errors.

Isolation plays and blind steals tend not to work at this level since so many players think nothing of calling two cold preflop. Players in the blinds will often call with garbage. In particular, you will tend to get called by ace-rag hands, which means you may be dominated from the get-go.

I would fold pre-flop.

I would like your preflop isolation play better if you were sooted or had a better kicker, maybe A8 or A9. I'd fold but I think it's close enough that an isolation raise isn't bad.

Flop: goot
Turn: The cap is a little much after he checkraises you on the flop and 3-bets your turn raise.
River: goot

Playing Ace + rag vs. Ace + rag isn't profitable at the lower levels, despite having position.

I would have folded pre-flop. You will almost always be out kicked. I doubt you even get a split pot.

I'm dumb. I missed that MP1 had limped. I thought you were stealing. fold preflop.

Thanks for all the comments. Pre-flop, I think I was a victim of fancy play syndrome. In retrospect, with the PF play a given, I probably should have just called his turn 3-bet and the river (assuming no 6), since he was generally passive post-flop. But the worst part is that he flipped over A4, scooping the pot on the river, instead of the more likely split. Ah well, I hit an inside straight on him three hands later and got my money back.

So had everyone folded, is a steal recommended?
