Default Two lines heads up after the flop with AKo and ATo

I am having trouble with these two situations as to when to bet the river and when not to. Does anyone rely on a stat like how often the oponnent goes to showdown or on the opponent's agression factor here? I don't feel very well about either of these hands. Any comments on these two lines are greatly appreciated.

Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (8 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is CO with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
UTG folds, UTG+1 folds, MP1 calls, MP2 folds, Hero raises, Button folds, SB folds, BB folds, MP1 calls.

Flop: (5.50 SB) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
MP1 checks, Hero bets, MP1 calls.

Turn: (3.75 BB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
MP1 checks, Hero bets, MP1 calls.

River: (5.75 BB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
MP1 checks, Hero checks.

Final Pot: 5.75 BB

Results in white below:
MP1 has Ac 4h (two pair, sixes and fours).
Hero has Ah Ts (one pair, sixes).
Outcome: MP1 wins 5.75 BB.

Here is a similar situation w/AKo where I decide to bet the river:

Flop: (5 SB) 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, SB calls.

Turn: (3.50 BB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)

River: (5.50 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)

I think I'd check behind on the river in both hands. If your opponents have you beat, they seem determined to call down. Possibly in Hand 1 your opponent will fold a better ace, and maybe in Hand 2 your opponent will call with a worse one. But I don't think you'll benefit from a river bet often enough in these hands.
