I'd play 9's for set value early in a tournament and with 5 limpers. Was that a limp-reraise by the button? That usually indicates a monster, AA or KK. I'd bet it and be prepared to release.

I don't know why you raised, but since you did, I'm checking and hoping the button makes a smallish bet instead of a large one so I can checkraise him instead of fold.

There is no point making such a small raise preflop with such a marginal hand. At this point of the tournament, you are happy to check and hope to flop a set. Making such a small raise is not going to get anyone to fold thus achieving nothing.

Given that you have raised preflop, I guess I'd check and raise a small bet from late position, otherwise fold. You've got yourself into a nasty situation here.

If he has AA or KK then it was played terribly. Why would anybody hope for a limp reraise from the button with so many limpers already in?

A lot of these players like to just limp in order to "trap" the other players and will reraise if it is raised after them. Their aim may not be a limp reraise but it happens if they are raised.
