Default Did I \"Call Stationize\" too quickly?

Party Poker 3/6 7 handed

Notes about opponents. So I don't have a decent read but I'm starting to lean towards goofy for Mr 2h. But I'm not there yet.

So I ask...did I turn into a call station too quickly??

I know I post mundane hands, but thats where improvement matters most

I'd have raised fifth street, but you played it fine. Bring-in is more likely to have two pair than trips, and you beat every reasonable two-pair hand. You'd rather have the third player out than in, but he only hurts you if he improves to beat you and the bring-in doesn't already have you beaten.

I think a raise to see where you are and try to bump out the other guy may be in order. On the other hand he is playing like he got his trips so you may not want to be throwing money away...tough call. If you think he is a moron I would try the raise after you got your 7s and see what happens

Most of the 3/6 players on party ARE morons. prudent play, but I believe a reraise is in order to find out where you are. Also you'd rather have the pot heads up due to the fact that party players pull off some of the most rediculous outdraws I've ever seen.

It seems too many times recently the idiots, aka fish, whom our strategic play is supposed to be taking the money from end up having a 2 in the hole. I hate that.
I would have played it the same way from fifth street on. But then again I'm still fighting weak tight tendencies.
FWIW...my favorite stud poker author, RW, says that 2 pair on fourth or fifth is either a bet or a raise. Never a call. Now if I could just remember that during a game.

i dont think so. the only question to me is whether to raise on fifth after he bets.

Andy I thought about whether to raise or not and i am not sure. you hit the right issue of course, which is whether you want the third guy in or out. i think that i want him in and would only raise if I think he will call. IF i raise and he folds and the bettor calls then if i win i still get two bets, but the problem is that i am heads up now against a better hand i may lose money if i improve and get the pot, since although i get two bets in either event on fifth street, i wont get two on sixth or the river. i am still not sure raising isnt correct though.

I don't like just calling on 5th since there's a good chance that our hero's 2 pair is best. If he knew he was behind, the presence of a third player isn't as menacing since (a) our hero can't win without improving and (b) seat 4 has to improve enough to pass the hero's improved hand. That has a 7CSFAP ring to it...

With Kings up, I'd rather not let two people chase cheaply. If our hero raises, and the other guy calls with crap, that's great. If he folds, that's not bad either.

Who is RW? If the high board bets, gets three callers, and your call closes the action, I think you should call with two small pair most of the time.

Who is RW?

[/ QUOTE ] Roy West

Out of the context of his book the statement that two pair should be either bet or raised, never called, on fourth or fifth appears to be an over generalization. I believe he's assuming you are not going to call a double bet on fifth with two small pair that are 5:1 against improving let alone against a high card bettor and two other callers. In general he suggests staying away from two small pair.

In this particular situation described by the original poster raising on fifth with two pair, the probable best hand, certainly makes sense.
