Yes, it does, but in the spirit of the holiday season, I'll respond.

Conventional wisdom is that you need at least 300BB for fixed limit hold'em.

live or online? what site? what type of game? passive or aggressive? soft or tough? any shorthanded play? how much better than the average player are you?

the answer could be anywhere between 6k and 10k

This is not meant to be mean, I'm just curious: If you knew this was a question that was repeatedly asked, why didn't you try using the search function?

Thief--

For me, a big bankroll is as much about security from going bust as it is about probability of going bust in a specific type of game. I recomend a minimum of 300 BB's to everyone, no matter the game. With less than 300 IMO you just aren't playing the best you can and aren't serious.

$8k (400BB) very minimum if you are trying to play for a living (though if you even need to ask this question you aren't ready to play for a living), $5k (250BB) otherwise. This is for your typical neutral-on-both-axes 10/20 game.

If the games in your area tend towards the loose or aggressive, increase these amounts by 50%. You cannot play your best in these games if you are scared money.

If you are a great Omaha player, you can get by on about 2/3 as much. The reason is that Omaha is a lower-variance game overall than HE.
