How tight?

I don't play many tourneys and usually just play the ones that online sites give you for playing the ring games.


Although I am a long term ring game winner, I have done poorly in tourneys finishing only once in the money in tourneys that have more than 20 players out of about 40 tourneys.


I have heard that tight play at the beginning is a good bet...but how tight? I usually just play the same as in the ring games and just don't seem to catch a flop {limit holdem}. Anyone just stick to level 1 or 2 hands at the beginning? One more question..does anyone think the online tourneys are softer than the ring games? I have had players tell me that, while my results have been the opposite.
