Differences Between 1/2 6 Max and 5/10 6 Max?
Hey guys, just wanted to get the people who are currently playing 5/10 6max and have played in 1/2 6max to give me their opinions and analysis on the differences of the two games. Obviously, money/bankroll needed is a big ditufference from 1/2 to 5/10, but how about the players. I have been playing 1/2 6max for about a month now with good results. There seems to be at least 1 or 2 fishes at each table in 1/2 to isolate.
In my situation, I've been playing online poker for over a year now. Started from 0.5/1 to 1/2 and then 2/4. I consider myself a winning player in each limit. I was planning to move to 3/6 but had to cash out my bankroll due to financial reasons. Now I'm back playing 1/2 6Max and I seem to be beating it with ease. I've watched/spectated some of the 5/10 6Max games and it seems pretty soft to me. I know that the recommended bankroll be to move up limits is 300-400BBs. However, do I really need $4000 to be able to survive in $5/10? I was thinking of playing with a $1000-$1500 bankroll. Do you think it's possible or just suicide? I feel like I have very good fundamentals and feel for the game. I very rarely go on tilt and I play very TAG. I've been lurking in the forums for a couple of months now and I just wanted to get your opinions on what I should do next. I appreciate all the commments/critcism you may have for me. |

Re: Differences Between 1/2 6 Max and 5/10 6 Max?
While we're at it, I was just about to post something similar but I'll save a thread and just add it to this one.
I'm at 3/6 full right now and I see 5/10 6-max as being my next stop. In what ways should I be preparing for the change, if any? |

Re: Differences Between 1/2 6 Max and 5/10 6 Max?
The difference between the two games is that at the 1/2, you usually have a table with you and 3 fairly loose passives, and 2 total brainless fish.
At the 5/10, you usually have a couple of decent players, maybe one or two fairly loose passives, and maybe one or two maniac/lags. So both games are beatable but the 1/2 can be beaten for a lot more-also the 5/10 requires better reads since not every player can be put in the "fish" column. 1k-1.5k is crazy if you are using that for a long-term bankroll, one bad run and you're done. You could be a winning player and easily run through that. On the other hand there's nothing wrong with setting aside part of that money and taking a shot. If you want to prepare for the 5/10, play at a site with decent SH players like stars or paradise. |

Re: Differences Between 1/2 6 Max and 5/10 6 Max?
Well, I think you can take a shot at 5/10 *but* you need a bankroll bigger than 1500 imho. +100 bb downswings are *very* common, and you don't want to play with just a couple of hundred bucks left when you just blew a k. BUT; if you are prepared for this, give it a shot being prepared to loose it (but hopefully win of course) and in that case start over again from 1/2. /v

Re: Differences Between 1/2 6 Max and 5/10 6 Max?
i played 1/2 6 max for a while, now im playing 5/10 full table. The differnce in player skill is minimal. There just as bad in 1/2 6max as in 5/10 6 max. I gotta warn u tho no matter how good u are theres gonna be swings and u could lose ur bankroll of a 1000 within a couple days or maybe even make 1000 in a couple days. If you wanna move up to 5/10 and be safe go to 5/10 full. the fishes are just as plentiful, the first 3-4 days i moved up i won about 1100 and the next 2-3 days i lost 900, so even though im a good player i still experience swings, so probably real important to have a 300bb bankroll, but if u wanna go for it do it cuz i did it too actually

Re: Differences Between 1/2 6 Max and 5/10 6 Max?
First of all you're in the wrong forum. Cross post in HUSH.
From what I've heard its easy to go on a 150BB drop for even the best players, so they recommend actually 300-500BB bankroll. The difference in skill level between 1/2SH and 5/10SH is apparently very large, so you want to try 2/4 and 3/6 SH at Poker Stars or other similar site which apparently makes the transition much easier. I'm not saying you can't do it, but I think you should at least give the other mid-limit SH games a shot before you try it out. If you get lucky and go on a hot streak early you're set, but definitely save some of your bankroll to hedge against the worst. If you want some tips, this thread might help: Nemesis's compendium for 6-max threads Good Luck! |

5/10 full is about 50 times tougher than 5/10 6-max
