If he's truly loose/passive, his river raise means he can beat a pair of eights. I hate paying off bad players, so I think your fold is good.

I probably prefer the line of bet the flop, bet the turn, check/call the river.
Why didn't you bet the flop? Were you trying for a check-raise? |
