Quick check-up
I've lost more than my fair share of 55/45 type situations in my last four score SnGs, and it's making me wonder whether I put myself in these situations too often. Perhaps I am making too many pot-odds calls. Here is a recent, typical one:
***** Hand History for Game 1193642531 ***** NL Hold'em $20 Buy-in + $2 Entry Fee Trny:7275385 Level:5 Blinds(100/200) - Thursday, November 18, 19:41:40 EDT 2004 Table Table 14001 (Real Money) Seat 1 is the button Total number of players : 6 Seat 4: mrzarembsky ( $1095 ) Seat 6: papabuster ( $2860 ) Seat 1: US_Treasurer ( $1800 ) Seat 8: crrazychicke ( $920 ) Seat 2: TOADFISH ( $495 ) Seat 7: KentAhlfors ( $830 ) Trny:7275385 Level:5 Blinds(100/200) ** Dealing down cards ** Dealt to mrzarembsky [ 2h Ah ] papabuster folds. KentAhlfors folds. crrazychicke folds. US_Treasurer folds. TOADFISH is all-In. mrzarembsky calls [295]. I'm thinkin' this is fine and dandy, but perhaps not? |

Re: Quick check-up
I think an argument could probably be made for both sides on this one. I think the only thing that might push me towards a fold on this one is that their is a higher chance of having a dominated hand. I would rather call this w/ 78s than A2s, but then again he could be pushing w/ Kx. I don't think calling or folding is bad in this spot

Re: Quick check-up
I agree Ilya, I think you're good either way here. I would probably be more inclined to fold here. He's only got a little over 2 BB left and HE has picked this spot to push, I'd rather let him have the blinds, and let someone else worry about knocking him out.
Tough call though and I think you aren't wrong one way or another. PS>If it was ghansenslady raising all in on the short stack I would hope you auto-fold immediately |

Re: Quick check-up
I dunno, I have a hard time folding here also, but I am open to some good analysis that might prove otherwise.
I think SB here will push with a WIDE range of hands, but even if he would only push with top 35% or so (any ace, any king, any pair, any 2 broadway), you are like 49% against his range of hands. You are a favorite over any hand not included in that range of hands, so if he is any more loose than that there, your odds go up. I know if I were him, I'd push with almost any two here |

Re: Quick check-up
equity (%) win (%) / tie (%)
Hand 1: 47.6741 % [ 00.45 00.03 ] { Ah2h } Hand 2: 52.3259 % [ 00.49 00.03 ] { AA-TT, AKs-A2s, KQs-K2s, QJs-QTs, JTs, AKo-ATo, KQo-KTo, QJo-QTo, JTo } but if you add in un-SOOTED K and A hands: equity (%) win (%) / tie (%) Hand 1: 50.8932 % [ 00.46 00.05 ] { Ah2h } Hand 2: 49.1068 % [ 00.44 00.05 ] { AA-TT, AKs-A2s, KQs-K2s, QJs-QTs, JTs, AKo-A2o, KQo-K2o, QJo-QTo, JTo } |

Re: Quick check-up
I call. Pot-odds wise it's close, but this is a tournament and his chips are worth more than mine. I know that's old-school thinking but it works for me...
