Default RULES

I am a beginner, but I think I should post this here rather than the beginner thread. I just returned from a nearby small casino, first time in a B & M. All but one of dealers would go around as the play moved forward and say for example "$10 raise to you" or "check to you" The one dealer would just look around to each player when it was their turn and say nothing (treating us like the idiots we were). Even when it was obvious that I or another player wasn't quite sure what was up. What is the norm. In the same vein is there a good web site to learn all the basics of proper form? I have only played online previous to this.

Helpful dealers are helpful. But you should be paying attention. Ask if you are unsure, but that gets really annoying to the other players. Pay attention to the game.

There is no "norm." In Las Vegas, in the smaller games, the dealers will often verbally call out the action, since there are a larger number of inexperienced or novice players and, by doing so, they keep the game moving. In L.A., the dealers will not generally do this, although they will often announce a raise.

In the same way you couldn't really describe what playing on-line is like to a B&M player, I don't think you can really get up to speed by looking at a web page. You've got to experience it. You'll get the feel for how things work after a few sessions.

Good luck, and welcome.

It really varies. You can always ask what your options are. However, if you do that more than about twice you'll be marked as an inexperienced player and people will take shots at you.

Pretty soon you'll be able to follow the action pretty easily. At first it seems fast and hard to follow, so don't be afraid to ask.

Regards,
