Default Juice in tournaments

You may be interested to know that here in England the law has just been changed (literally as of this week) such that casinos are now allowed to charge up an entry fee for tournaments. Previously they were technically allowed to do this but would then be liable for tax on the entire tournament pool so of course no one did.

The juice is limited to 10% of the initial buy-in to a maximum of £25 ($40). Some cardrooms are charging this straight away, some (including my local room) are not and seem to be adopting a "wait and see" policy.

Given the ongoing discussion about increasing tournament charges in the US, it will be very interesting to see what effect the new rules in the UK have on the poker economy. I will keep you posted.

Andy.

Mike,

I'm not entirely sure but I think that part is still under review i.e. is not law yet, while the rest of it is. Someone please correct me if that's wrong.
