Default Set over set over set!

Warning! You will not learn much, if anything, by reading this hand history. It is just a statistical oddity I happened to be involved in.

Pre-flop:

ftross1 calls. Pimpahontus folds. rolobingo folds.
austinty raises to $2.25. ZINGER09 calls. dzajac
folds. Mr_Wilson calls. lowestpair folds. Dick
McCloud calls. ftross1 calls.

Flop (board: 9c 8h 6s):

Dick McCloud checks. ftross1 checks. austinty bets
$11.50. ZINGER09 goes all-in for $11.65. Mr_Wilson
calls. Dick McCloud folds. ftross1 goes all-in for
$20.50. austinty calls. Mr_Wilson calls.

Turn (board: 9c 8h 6s 3h):

austinty checks. Mr_Wilson goes all-in for $34.50.
austinty goes all-in for $23.95. Mr_Wilson is
returned $10.55 (uncalled).

River (board: 9c 8h 6s 3h Ac):

(no action in this round)

Showdown:

Mr_Wilson shows 8s 8d.
Mr_Wilson has 8s 8d 9c 8h Ac: three eights.
ftross1 shows 6h 6d.
ftross1 has 6h 6d 9c 6s Ac: three sixes.
austinty shows Ts Th.
austinty has Ts Th 9c 8h Ac: a pair of tens.
ZINGER09 shows 9d 9h.
ZINGER09 has 9d 9h 9c 8h Ac: three nines.

I suppose austinty should have been able to get away from his hand after the all-in bet by Mr_Wilson. I wonder what the odds of set over set over set on the flop are?

Default Re: Set over set over set!

Glad you had top set

Since you know that three players have pocket pairs, and want to know the odds of them hitting a set on the flop, you know 6 of 52 cards, and need 1 of 6, 4, and 2 cards to hit respectively.

So 6/46 * 4/45 * 2/42 = .0005521, or 1 in 1811.25

Feeling after realizing you were top set - priceless (or at least multiple times your stack).
