Default Ego at the tables.

So last night I was playing party 3/6 and 5/10 and there was this guy at one of my tables named Whitenight. He was really annoying. Of course I'm up big at all my tables except the one w/ him and he beat me out of a big pot when I played like an idiot. He had QQ I had AK and the flop came Q77. I looked at the stats of the table and it was misserable... it had grown tight and lame and there were certainly other better tables to play at... but damn if I didn't want to beat this guy out of a pot. I played another orbit or two, won a couple of pots and then realized I was wasting my time there. If switched to another table and did much much better.

I hate when my ego makes me stick around like this when there are clearly better opportunities elsewhere.

Of course.

With all due respect, I think you entirely changed the context of his sentence by prematurely cutting it off...

It was more like "of course, I happen to be up at all my tables except against the fukwad that is annoying the hell out of me and who I wish I was crushing. I certainly did not mean to be insinuating that "of course I'm so good that I'm up at all my tables".

I absolutely know that I am still learning and am not that good of a player. If I played against any number of good players I'd get smoked. fortunately I play at party poker where I can learn and still make money off the people who know even less than I do.

I know enough to know that I don't know all that much.

Yea, I'm pretty sure he meant that of course it was the one table with his arch nemesis that he happened to be losing at. He wasn't bragging.

he's not even my archnemesis and I don't even know why I was so annoyed by him but he had to say "Yummmy!" and "Thanks!" every time he raked in a pot and he was doing that way too often.

Heheh. I normally don't like the posting of player names much on web sites because it can shame them, unless they're real dirtbags and shaming is the least they deserve.

But I have bumped into guys who are poor sports and try to rub it in when they win. Not nearly as bad as live casino play. There are plenty of casino players there who absolutely live to gloat and be as obnoxious as possible.

As to your original subject, I think we all do that sometimes. Sometimes it's a harmless challenge, but it can waste a lot of time and money when we're staying at a table where our image has been busted, or when there are just better tables somewhere else. Hard not to fall into that trap sometimes though! I've tried to get even with a guy before and found it distorting my play, too. It can be hard to keep in mind, but it's best just to think about the money instead of the people.
