Default Pot odds call?

I am in the BB with J5s and 500 left after posting blind. Blinds 100/200, PP level 5, 5 players remaining. Aggressive biggest stack in CO raises to 800. I call. He shows QQ. End of SNG. People talk about how crazy I was to call.

I am betting 500 to win 1500, so I am getting 2-1 pot odds. Obviously I wouldn't call if I new CO had an overpair. However, even if I am dominated by AJo I am only slightly more than a 2-1 dog. I am almost certainly the underdog, but on average not by nearly 2-1. If I lose I am out, but if I win I am probably in the money. I think the call was correct.

I think in all the situations you describe it's an easy fold for this reason - Those last 500 chips you're putting at risk have a lot more value per chip than the 1k you're trying to win. It's your tourney life on the line. By calling, you're forgoing what's likely to be a much better opportunity (even minus 200 chips) to get your chips in with a good chance to double up + overlays and get back in healthy position to steal blinds, etc.

Calling being a 2 to 1 dog just means that 67% of the time you're out of the tourney. There's times to make a desperate stand, but this probably isn't one of them.

PP level 5 has no antes. You describe no callers before the CO raise.

So, you are calling 500 to win 800. Under no circumstance is a J5s an overlay at 1.6:1 (unless the CO is on a complete steal).

And you need a good sized overlay when it's your bottom dollar.

Not that it changes too much but he is calling 500 to win 1000.

Default Are you sure?

If there are $300 in blinds, and he has $500 left, then all he can call of the raise is $500.

$500 to win $800.

I am in the BB. I am calling 500 to win 1000. My 200 in the BB, 100 SB, and 700 from the raiser makes 1000.
