Default Help a noob

hi, im new to these forums and resonably new to the game of holdem in general. i play mostly 3-6 limit at my local casino. could you guys define some of the terms you guys use here alot and give me some info about them? mainly i've been wondering what TAG and LAG mean, and why it's bad to be a LAG but good to be a TAG.
im assuming this referres to playing styles, tight and loose, but what is intailed in playing the TAG game that you guys are always talking about?

Sometimes it's good to be LAG. Look at Chris Daddy Cool!

inside jokes are fun, but meaningless to me! what are the fundamental differeneces (hand selection, when to be aggressive, etc.) between being a LAG and a TAG??

Sorry wizzard.

If anyone wanted to get into this, the answer would be too long to be contained in one post.

Tight player play few hands, probably less than 25%. Loose players play more hands, probably more than 35%.

Aggressive players bet and raise alot. Passive players call alot.

Basically, it is good to be tight and aggressive, because tight players win a higher percentage of the pots they enter, and aggressive players win bigger pots when they do win.

If the discussion gets anymore detailed, it will take a book to answer the question, but if you have specific questions, they will get addressed by someone on the forum. I promise.

Good luck,
play well,

Bob T.

Sorry dude.

LAG players are basically maniacs. They raise hands that you wouldn't expect them to, and they are aggressive often with nothing.

TAG players are selectively aggressive. They raise almost all their good hands preflop, and play aggressively both when they have made hands and when they are on good draws or semi-bluffs.

Example:

A LAG might limp/cap with 42o and bluff every street.

A TAG will aggressively bet and raise the flop with a 4-flush and more than 2 players involved.

thanks for the responses guys. i guess maybe what i was getting at is this: the typical 2+2 poster that describes another player virtually always does so in a condescending tone, refering to them as a LAG or whatever. I guess I was just wondering if there was some uber eleet 2+2 strategy exclusive to or at least native to these forums...I understand the value of tight, aggressive play
