Default Playing Beginners - Any Tips???

I'm in a monthly game with co-workers, most of whom barely know what they are doing. I find that most of the better players are getting knocked out with hands like top set by someone who hit a straight after staying in on a 4 big blind pre-flop raise with 9-6 suited.

I've got a game coming up this Friday with what looks to be the weakest competition yet. Any advice (besides not to play in games like that)?

Sounds like the game is low stakes limit? If so, don't bother raising with overcards, you won't thin the field. Get to the flop cheaply where you can outplay them. Pay attention to your position. Very important to get position on weak/loose oppsition. Don't bother raising PP unless you hit the set or the flop is kind. Good luck!
