Default Democracy to the world

Why do we keep fighting to bring democracy to the world when we still have people here strongly arguing that we live in a republic, not a democracy. Maybe we should be fighting to bring republics to the world.

Default Re: Democracy to the world

This democracy/republic argument is silly. They are related terms.

A republic is a form of democracy. Our country is too big to have a national town meeting to decide issues, so we elect representatives to act on our behalf.

Not all democracies are republics, but the USA is both a democracy and a republic.

Since the US is a democracy, and a democracy is a good thing, why shouldn't we help the people of the world who also want to live in a democracy?

Oh, and btw, the form of democracy we are helping people live under is that of a Republic. So, Elwood, we are bringing Republics to the world.
