Default Betting structure

I've been invited to a home game next week. The buy-in is $1000 (US$600). The ante, no blind, is $2 per person per hand. There is no limit on the first bet, but subsequent bets may not exceed ten times the amount of the first bet. e.g. I open with a $3 bet, any subsequent bets or raises MAY be up to $30.

Has anybody here ever heard of such a structure? Any tips on how to approach it? Sorry the questions are vague but while I don't want to give up the opportunity to join what might turn out to be a good regular game, I'm a bit leery over my unfamiliarity with the structure. All comments appreciated.
