Default volcano in washington is ready to blow

mt. st. helens looks like its ready to blow again. last time in the 80's it put inches of ash on everything in the northwest. next few days will tell. it wont affect zeno as his place is already covered in cigar ash.

Just read an update article in the Seattle Times: Mt. St. Helens update

You can check out the USGS website for the Cascade Volcano Observatory and get updated information.

Probably will just be small phreatic eruptions.

The only cigar ash is on my rug and computer keyborad. Thanks for the concern Mr. Zee.

In the May 1980 eruptions, I think ash made it all the way to western Montana.

I wasn't even alive when St. Helens erupted the first time, but my mom's dad died on that day.

I was 10 years old when it touched off; I remember that day VERY clearly. Curiously, I caught sight of Mt. St. Helens just a couple of days before it started the most recent activity. I was flying back from Tahoe (via Reno) and got to see all the Cascades lined up (Hood-Rainier) for the first time- every other time I have flown, I was either on the wrong side of the plane or it was dark/cloudy. What a spectacular sight.

We had ash from the eruptions fall in Colorado Springs, CO several days later. It was a light dusting, but as a kid I thought it was pretty cool.

yah...my dad lives near Ray, and he took newspapers, set them out on a flat surface, and by the end of the day, filled half a small jar with volcanic ash and sent it to us....

as a kid in CA, that was just the coolest thing ever at that time...

Was that from the eruption? Sixty two people did die from the eruption. Or was your grandpa's death just coincidence?

A big plume of steam and ash erupted today.
Apparently not too serious but some flights were cancelled/diverted.
