Re: volcano in washington is ready to blow
Just read an update article in the Seattle Times: Mt. St. Helens update
You can check out the USGS website for the Cascade Volcano Observatory and get updated information. Probably will just be small phreatic eruptions. The only cigar ash is on my rug and computer keyborad. Thanks for the concern Mr. Zee. In the May 1980 eruptions, I think ash made it all the way to western Montana. -Zeno |

I wasn't even alive when St. Helens erupted the first time, but my mom's dad died on that day.

Re: volcano in washington is ready to blow
I was 10 years old when it touched off; I remember that day VERY clearly. Curiously, I caught sight of Mt. St. Helens just a couple of days before it started the most recent activity. I was flying back from Tahoe (via Reno) and got to see all the Cascades lined up (Hood-Rainier) for the first time- every other time I have flown, I was either on the wrong side of the plane or it was dark/cloudy. What a spectacular sight.

Re: volcano in washington is ready to blow
yah...my dad lives near Ray, and he took newspapers, set them out on a flat surface, and by the end of the day, filled half a small jar with volcanic ash and sent it to us....
as a kid in CA, that was just the coolest thing ever at that time... RB |

Re: volcano in washington is ready to blow
A big plume of steam and ash erupted today.
Apparently not too serious but some flights were cancelled/diverted. |
