New to Sports Betting

I have played poker for a year and done very well...Have made good $ doing it...I am starting to wonder if Sports Betting has the same potential as poker...Also, do you guys have websites where you place bets just as we have online poker rooms?

I don't know if the potential is more or less than poker. I think it has been debated on 2+2 before though.

There are tons of sportsbooks out there to bet at on the internet.

Thank you for the site...I have read it...It seems to me that poker theory should apply to sports betting...The problem with sports betting is that you should expect to win 50% of the time...In poker we would say that the winning odds are 1:1...Now a good poker player would ask what the pot odds are...If the pot lays more than 1:1 then we bet , otherwise fold...Now in sports betting the pot always lays less than 1:1 due to the Vig...So how is it profitable? The only way would be to alter your 50% chance of winning...and you know its gotta be tough as hell to do this...probably easier to engage in insider stock trading types of predictions...

It can be profitable for several reasons. The main reason being that the linesmaker is not always correct. His job is really to gauge public opinion, not to find the correct line on a game.

also, if you line shop and always bet the best numbers, you will probably win 2-3% more bets per season.

What is the most popular sportsbook online? I mean, what would be comparable to something like partypoker.com or pokerstars.com?

There are a lot more sportsbooks on-line than there are poker sites. The most popular would probably be Pinnacle, VIP (anything under the VIP umbrella), Sports Interaction (i personally don't like them at all), and Intertops (didn't like them too much either). But, the most popular books does not necessarily make a site the best.

I use WSEX as there is the option of playing poker with the money if I so desire.

It may be a good idea for a poker player to use sites that have sportsbook/poker combinations so you can win back your losses at poker [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]
