Default Set value

I understand the general concept, but I think I'm weak on the specifics. I'm requesting help understand them.

I get the idea of limping in, and hoping for a set the prescribed 12% of the time. But what about in raised pot? I have heard that in Tom McEvoy's book he recommends calling a raise up to 10% of your stack, as long as the raiser can payoff (they have a stack remaining of at least 10X the raise).

But, is this only when you have position? Or, is this only when there are other callers in the pot, so that if you hit your set, you're more likely to get more action?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Default Re: Set value

i dont like playing for sets unless the blinds are very low and you have at least 3 people playing the hand. to get the set paid off, you have to first make it, then someone else has to make something thats not quite as good while not making a better hand. pocket pairs should be used in heads up situations or limped with with low blinds.
