Default Playing a mediocre hand strongly

Ok,
I'm sitting in late position behind the dealer, and I feel like playing something a bit different - I usually play super tight, so I wanted to play out on another hand.

Game #101317843: Texas Hold'em No Limit ($0.50/$1) - 2004/09/24 - 00:01:42 (GMT)
Table "Sterling" Seat 8 is the button.
Seat 1: Vesterbro ($30.25 in chips)
Seat 2: GimeA33 ($73 in chips)
Seat 3: LEFTY ($114.75 in chips)
Seat 4: meganinja sits out
Seat 5: dubchambr ($99.25 in chips)
Seat 6: John23567 ($34 in chips)
Seat 7: Craiga_uk ($19 in chips)
Seat 8: Apbracka ($110 in chips)
Seat 9: Domin1008 ($169.25 in chips)
Seat 10: TJQKA1 ($57 in chips)
Domin1008: posts small blind $0.50
TJQKA1: posts big blind $1
----- HOLE CARDS -----
dealt to Craiga_uk [8h Ac]
Vesterbro: folds
GimeA33: folds
LEFTY: calls $1
dubchambr: folds
Craiga_uk: calls $1
Apbracka: folds
Domin1008: calls $0.50
TJQKA1: raises to $2
LEFTY: calls $1
Craiga_uk: calls $1
Domin1008: calls $1
----- FLOP ----- [Ah 4d Tc]

<font color="red">Ok, so I've hit the ace... ummm, that's what I wanted right. But now I've got a pretty poor kicker. I'm thinking I'll see how the betting goes and play it by ear </font>

meganinja sits back
Domin1008: checks
TJQKA1: bets $3

<font color="red">Hmm, this guy raised pre-flop. I'm thinking he's probably ATs or AK. Even if he wasn't I felt he probably had the A and had my kicker beat, so I fold.</font>

LEFTY: folds
Craiga_uk: folds
Domin1008: calls $3

Good move or bad move? I had no real 'data' on the raiser - he'd just sat at the table, and had played 3 hands before this one.
Should I have been more forceful with my play here?

Let me know what you think so far, then I'll let you know the outcome of the hand...

Just a heads-up: you'll probably get more responses if you post this in the NL forums.

Can a moderator close this? I'll re-post correctly this time.
