Default new site recommendations

I am going to be starting up a website for new sportsbettors. It will basically explain how to bet on sports and decent sportsbooks. I am doing this because we get a lot of requests from new sportsbettors on the basics of sportsbetting and a lot of people wondering about good sportsbooks. I have been working on this for the last few weeks (not up on the web yet, will be in a few weeks). do any of you guys have any recommendations (or requests) about certain information that should be on the website? you can email me at newbiesportsbetting@cox.net. thanks for any help with this.

In the basics, I assume you're walking through:

- Explainations of the lines, particular to each of the major sports at least, that new bettors will see posted in various places (some of the notations are not intuitive)

- various wagers new players can/should make

- A discussion on line searching and other knowledgeable techniques

- Typical betting effects on the lines; the "flow" that they may see during the week.

- The usual "for entertainment purposes only" disclaimer... unless you aren't in an area that the DOJ can get to you at

A dictionary with the common terms that newbies (like my self) wouldn't understand.

Half of learning something is learning the language.

Hey! What about my site! www.howtogamble.net Kinda the same idea (with a dictionary for newbies!)

JK Good luck with your site. Just a word to the wise, I had the same idea a few months ago, and obviously did it. But if I knew then what I know now, I might have waited a while. The reason being-

I've been doing a lot of reading about how our government is currently deciding how to handle online gambling. In the past they have put pressure on banks and CC companies in an effort to curb this trend. Recently yahoo and google have agreed to stop advertising for gambling related sites, and the government is going to decide (I believe within the next 30 days) whether or not advertising for online casinos is legal or not. If it's made illegal, I think my website will be worthless.

Not to discourage you, but I'm in a situation where I finally got a site up and running, and it may be made illegal in a few weeks.

If you want to read more on this I would recommend starting at the forums at vipprofits.com and looking through some of the older posts there. Good luck to you!

I look forward to your site. There's just so much about this stuff that I know nothing about and if I'm going to do it even a little bit I'd prefer to at least be a little better at it.

I'm learning some on these forums and am really more focused on poker but I'll definitely check out your site.

FWIW, I wouldn't be too terribly concerned with the DOJ's supposed crack-down on internet-gambling. It is still a very grey-area. Obviously the 2+2 folks aren't yanking down their ads and neither should you.

They just won't bother coming after every small site that has advertisements for pinnacle or partypoker or whatever.
It's about as likely as the cops knocking on my door and asking "hey....are you gambling on the internet in there?"

I hope you are right, but I know several advertisers that VERY nervious. Anyway, noone would have to take down their ads until the outcome of the case.

Okay, well the site is officially up now. The address is www.newbiesportsbetting.net . The site is not anywhere near 100% finished (and probably never will be since I have so many ideas for it), but it is complete enough for complete beginners and novice sports bettors. Thank you guys very much for all of your suggestions. Please send any feedback, comments, or questions about the site to

webmaster@newbiesportsbetting.net (i don't want to clog up this forum).

thanks for the help,

craig
