Default Stupid Call or Good Read?

Playing a $10 SnG on Stars, this is the second hand:

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t20 (9 handed)

CO (t1260)
Button (t1880)
Hero (t1480)
BB (t1500)
UTG (t1500)
UTG+1 (t1440)
MP1 (t1500)
MP2 (t1500)
MP3 (t1440)

Preflop: Hero is SB with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
UTG folds, UTG+1 folds, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, MP3 folds, CO folds, Button folds, Hero completes, BB checks.

Flop: (t40) 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets t20, BB raises to t40, Hero calls t20.

Turn: (t120) J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets t80, Hero calls t80.

River: (t280) 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets t100, BB raises to t1340, Hero calls t1240 (All-In).

Final Pot: t2960
Main Pot: t2960 (t2960), between Hero and BB. > Pot won by Hero (t2960).

Results in white below:
Hero shows Ah 5d (one pair, aces).
BB shows Qs Td (high card, ace).
Outcome: Hero wins t2960.

I really thought it through. I pegged him on some sort of draw or maybe middle pair. I was trying to keep this pot small. When I made the bet at the river I figured he would call or make a small raise if I was beaten, when he made that huge raise at the end I knew he wouldn't do it unless he didn't want me to call. I know I could have gotten away from this hand, but I was positive I had read him correctly. What do you think about the play?

As long as you are aware that it might be a one-off and that you were very into this particular game then it's a great play, but there is a downside that you need to be careful of and that is that you shouldn't make this a routine play.

Accept it for a great one-off and be just as sure if you do it again.

I am normally a very tight player, but I was so sure that I had him beaten because of his bet on the river. I almost folded, but I was so certain I had him here I couldn't do it.

Giving Sam the benefit of the doubt, we can see that he got this player dead right on this one, single occasion.
Sometimes you just 'know' what your opposition is up to.

However given an identical situation when maybe multi tabling, or against an unknown player, it would be bad call IMO.

The warning is to not get too cocky with plays like this, but also to congratulate yourself on a great play on the occasions when you have judged it perfectly.
