Default 20-40 hand

Here's a hand that I thought was interesting from my 20-40 session last night at Bay 101.

There are 3 limpers to a bad player on my right, who raises. He's steaming. I have pocket 5's in the cutoff, and the button is a prop. I call. Button folds. The BB, & 3 limpers all call. 6 handed to the flop.

Flop: Kd 3c 6c. I have the 5c. It's checked to maniac, who checks (surprisingly). I check.

Turn: 2h. An EP player now bets out. He's not very good. It's folded to me. I raise. All fold to EP, who calls.

River: 6h. He bets, I call.

Comments on all streets welcome, and if you think the hand was boring, then you can comment on that, too.

Looks like you played it just fine. He mucked his busted flush draw when you called on the river?

Hi Sucker,

Pre-flop, I would consider a 3 bet here in the cut-off. But obviously your call is a no brainer.

After the free card gave you 3 more clean outs, I love your raise. I think your more likely ahead than behind and you could easily have helped fold out cards that could come and beat you.

On the river you have 11 BB's and a bad player with one more bet to you. Easy call.

I think a call preflop is fine and probably better than a rise.

All else seems fine. IMO.

Spice up the written delivery and include a quote from a Franz Kafka story. Also, bring a 12-gauge to the poker table.

What is the purpose of the 3-bet? In the Bay 101 20-40 game in this situation it will probably result in a 4-handed flop with a bunch of money in the pot, not really optimal for presto.

Don't know how I'd rate this an interesting/boring scale, but I'd play it exactly the same as you did virtually every time.

Hi Haakee,

Sometimes I'd consider a 3 bet to ensure I get the button, and to induce any limpers to check to me on the flop should I want to take a free card. Also I might get some dead money in the pot if one of the early limpers folds. Not something to do all the time, but certainly worth considering.

Why didn't you bet the flop?
