Default Standard Deviation

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this in, but it seems to be where everyone comes for statistics questions.

What exactly does the standard deviation figure in Poker Tracker mean? I know it's used to calculate risk od ruin and bankroll requirements. But what does it really mean? Also, what is an average/good number or is there a good number? Any comments appreciated. Thanks.

FWIW mine is 17BB/100 hands (Only 4500 hands cause I just got Poker Tracker).
