Default when to buy the pot and not?

Hi, i am wondering when I sohuld buy the pot and when I should just check and fold to a bet. What should I look for? I am in a 6 person table so I know the hands can't be that great all the time.

Tend to try to by the pot when you're holding a good draw so that you can at least improve to a good hand... (semi-bluff) fold flops that completely miss you and offer multiple draws, none of which you have.
