Default Question about raise terminology

When I hear "Raise 3 BBs" I think to myself "the BB is 100, so raise whatever I have to call 300 *more*". I'm starting to suspect I am wrong.

I've noticed in a number of posts the undeniable case that people will refer to, for instance, "making it 500 to go" in a 100/200 blind structure as a 2.5x raise, where I had thought this would be a 1.5x raise.

Which is the standard? I've been using Aleo's guide thinking that the 3xBB raises meant I raise to 400 in 50/100. Please clarify, thanks.

If the BB is 100, I tend to think a 3x BB raise is a bet of 300. I prefer using the phrase "I make it 300 to go"

Maybe this is oversimplifying: 3xBB: if blind is 100, 3x100= 300; if blind is 200, 3x200= 600.

I think the issue here is not what 3xBB equals. The issue is whether a 3xBB RAISE is an increase of 3xBB or a value the required call is brought to.

It's just odd for me to think that 3xBB raise in 50/100 would mean making it 300 to go, when I would think saying "I put in a $300 raise" would imply pushing the calling amt to 400. But I guess that is the reason for this post.

I think most people say things like, "Raise to 3xBB." The word 'to' is key, because it answers your question.
