Default Backdoor Draws- When?

I know in his excellent book "Winning Low Limit Holdem", Lee Jones mentionsa that if you have (2) overcards and a backdoor draw to the "nuts" then you can call a bet on the flop if the pot odds are right.

Do any of you guys have anyother guidelines regarding backdoor draws>

I don't know about backdoor straight draws, but I've heard/read that backdoor flush draws (3 to a flush after the flop) count as 2 outs (hits about 4% of the time).
