Not really. It's not like he bought some filets and drowned them in A-1. Beef Chunk needs some help, definitely.

A1 is [censored]. I realize he wasn't cooking a good cut of meat. There are much much better sauces out there. I hate A1, and so does the baby Jesus.

What are these better steak sauces? I'm pretty ignorant about this stuff, as I usually season my steaks myself before cooking and don't need steak sauce. Nonetheless, every once in a while I get a bad steak in some bad restaurant and need some sauce; what should I be asking for?

I agree that it would not be my first choice but it's not the sacrelige that putting it on a nice porterhouse would be.

I'm partial to (cheap-end) Heinz 57 (more tang, better flavor) or getting the restaurant to bring out some horse-radish sauce or something along those lines.

Leah and Perrins makes a nice steak sauce IIRC.

Anyway, this is all personal preference stuff. I just really dislike A1.

Of course, if you are eating a bad steak, any sauce that can mask the taste is a good thing. The style of restaurant where you get a bad steak isn't gonna have good sauces, they'll have Heinz 57 and A1.

Relax, I didn't put A1 onto every bite. I like to taste meat with and without sauces. I like my meals to have a variety of flavors.

Edit: Actually the meat was more tender that I thought it would be. Guess its the Ranchers Reserve thing.

horse-radish sauce - agreed.

Heinz 57 - definitely not more tang than A-1; and, at least IMO, not a better flavor. I'll actually use A-1 over ketchup on my fries (or a mixture) if available.

And yes, good steaks don't need a thing but salt and pepper.

No sweat bro, was just busting your chops a wee bit and it sorta blew up.

It's all personal preference anyway. Hell, my wife puts ketchup on her friggin mashed potatoes sometimes.

It's a chuck steak. A1 is the right play.

LOL I read the Original Post and when I read Chuck steak, I got a bad feeling, then I saw Pan Fry, and that feeling got worse.

But yes A1 on this piece of [censored], is the only way to go.

PM me and I will give you my ex's number and you all can eat shitty steaks together.

Ketchup on Mashed potatoes? Thats a freakin travesty there. I have a friend who dips french fries into mayonaise. Disgusting.
