w/ no reads, I check/call the river. You're not going to get called by much that you beat here.

I disagree. You'll often get calls with some random pair.

I'll second that.

I've seen players call the river with K high or worse, and it's fairly common to see ariver call with a smaller pair. I think you are giving up bets her if you check the river.

My standard line in hands like this has become bet flop, bet turn, check-call river. I get beat up on this board for being weak-tight, but it seems that the standard-micro-player call-call-raise line has become so prevalent you can't read anything from it.

Doesn't this fall under the 'Betting for Value on the River' section in SSHE? Against a someone with no reads I don't think you can play this any differently. I would make the call on the river too. It sucks when they hit two pair or something, but I don't think you can check-call the river here against a loose-passive opponent, which I would assume with no reads. When they raise I would still make the crying call, as I would agree with the above poster about getting shown middle pair here sometimes.

Against a LAG, I think it's an easy call on the river. They aren't going to call a re-raise with anything that you beat.

I think not betting the river is pretty bad.

Uh, ok, Hero DID bet the river. The question is, what do you do in the face of a raise?

I'm just curious, why is nobody check raising this flop?

Top pair with a weak kicker and bdfd. I'm not saying I would, but I thought I might see a reply with that in it.

Too few opponnents?

[/ QUOTE ]I wouldn't do it because as of yet no one has shown any aggression, so going for the check-raise is risky at best, and we need to protect our hand. We definitely don't want to give a free card. I'm not sure I check-raise enough, but I want to know what I'm trying to get done with the check-raise and whether I can accomplish that depending on who is likely to raise.

Why do we want to check-raise? Depending on whether we want people to trap people for two bets or face them with two cold, we have to know who is going to bet. In this case I think a late position bet would be nice, but we can't know that late position is likely to do that. Thus, since we have to protect our hand, betting is the best option (in my opinion).

No guarantee that anybody will bet, and don't want to give a freebie.
