I was at the Trop in AC last night playing 2-4 HE. Here is my problem...I have been playing poker for about a year and a half now and I am just starting to really get a feel for the game and how I best play it. I don't really have any sort of a bankroll so depending on how much money I have I will either play 2-4 or 3-6. I realize that at these stakes the caliber of player is somewhere around very new beginner to maybe someone like myself who has read some books and has a decent knowledge of the game.
Last night I was just amazed. Every table I went to sit on there seemed to be at least 2 players who acted like they were pros. They were getting mad when people would hit their straights and flushes on the river. Is it just me or isn't that what you would expect to see in such low stakes games? I would think that if you were such a "PRO" you wouldn't be slumming around at the low limit games anyway. I just feel like every poker player has the right to play any 2 cards they are dealt any way they like...they are putting their own money into the pot and it's their call to take 6-1 shots on every flop.... I myself notice the difference in tightness from 2-4 to 3-6 and sometimes I like it a little tighter in the higher game. I hope to some time in the future step up to 4-8 and 6-12 and really give it a go... So I guess my real question is this...Are these so called "PROS" really pros trying to take advantage of the newbies...or are they just a bunch of know it all amateurs trying to intimidate the growing poker world? |

They are little babies that can't take the fact that they themseleves are losing players so they direct the blame on the other players.

Most any "pro":
1) Would not get angry at fish who suck out, 2) Would not be playing 2/4 and 3/6 if higher games were available, given the high rake in these low limit games. |

Smitty,
Welcome aboard. Are these so called "PROS" really pros trying to take advantage of the newbies...or are they just a bunch of know it all amateurs trying to intimidate the growing poker world? Not too many pro's can get by making $4-$8 dollars an hour. You might play against busted pros, however I think your playing against wannabe posers. Is it just me or isn't that what you would expect to see in such low stakes games? I would think that if you were such a "PRO" you wouldn't be slumming around at the low limit games anyway. You hit the nail on the head there. Get a bankroll. Everytime you win put, keep your money in the poker bankroll. Good luck. |

Mike,
Can you help explain the value of bankroll? I'm in a similar boat as Smitty, but only playing about 10/11 months, and so far live 2/4. However, from this forum I've learned that I am better off playing on-line, sharpening my skills, learning the game, etc., and use my on-line winnings (when they come )for my live play. And here, on-line, I understand the 300 BB bankroll concept. Should, is it best, for one to do the same thing live? Is the concept the same? I know this is silly question, maybe, but I am curious. Thanks for your thoughts/comments. David |

Thanks for the input so far guys...I appreciate it....Just trying to fight for the beginner here...The people that I am talking about make the beginner shy away from playing hands and learning to play them well...

Can you help explain the value of bankroll? If a player doesnt have a bankroll the player cannot play. Therefore you should not play in a game you cannot theoretically afford to play in because you stand the risk of ruination. |
