Default WHat do you put him on?

Stars $11 rebuy, 170 left out of 700, 81 paid.

Blinds 600/1200 ante 75.

UTG open raises to 6000. he has around 18K, and has never raised 5x before. WHat kind of hand do you put him on?

I had 99 with 30K and folded.

My guess is between pocket JJ, or QQ. What did you put him on when you folded?

Exactly the same as you, T's J's or Q's, something he really didn't want a call. I don't think he'd do it with a bigger pair, but if I haf J's it would still have been a tough call.

I was also thinking that he may have had pockets lower than 9, also not wanting a call so he made that significant raise to make it seem like he had higher pockets.

For several reasons: He is UTG and if he just calls with his low pockets, he might be confronted by a raise in the later position putting him at a disadvantage after the flop since he is first to act.

Compared to him raising hard showing strength because he is UTG and others would know that he has something good up his sleeves since he raised 5xBB at an early position.

I think he had garbage and used his position wisely to take the blinds
Jacks seems about right, too, though...

In my experience (fairly limited), that is usually JJ or TT

The reason you asked this question is exactly why you have no business calling with 99. I'd say generally the range is JJ-77, and Ak-AQ.

I would put him on a hand that more than likely beats 99 enough of the time its a good fold. (88-QQ AK AQs) I would agree that JJ would be a tough call.

If you had JJ Davidross what would you move be? They are a tough hand to play also from this position, if you push you will be in trouble most of the time if called to QQ-AA/or praying a over to pair thier AK AQ dosn't hit.

I think I would fold JJ here too. I guess I posted this to see if anyone took the very large raise to be a steal with something like AJ or similarly weak.
