Anyone have insight on where the famous phrase "Vegas Baby, Vegas" came from? The reference I always think of is when Vince Vaughn says the line in the movie Swingers. But that can't be the seed that made it famous, can it?
Just curious what folks might know. Thanks. Sparks |

As far as I know that's where it came from... I've never heard anything otherwise... but maybe I just don't hear that much

I think that Swingers was it. "Vegas, Baby" was probably around since the 60s, when following everything up with "baby" was the typical hipster style. (I'm thinking of Sammy Davis, Jr. here. But adding that second enthusiastic "Vegas" had to be Swingers.) Swingers also gave us "money" as an adjective, and "digits" to describe somebody's phone number. Sure, guys in LA were probably talking this way back in 96, but the rest of us weren't until we saw the flick. Still one of my favorite movies, and neither Favreau nor Vaughn have done anything better since.
Speaking of Vegas, have you noticed that before the film came out, the "old school" casinos downtown (e.g., The Golden Nugget, Binion's Horseshoe, Fremont, Four Queens, and Plaza were embarrasing meccas for chain smokers, low rollers and bluehairs. But since the film came out, those places are cool again. Coincidence? I don't think so. |

Made is a funny movie but it's kind of like a poor man's Swingers.
Vince Vaughn was in an excellent movie called Return to Paradise. Few people saw it but it's one of my favorites. Joaquin Phoenix is also in it. Anyone see it? Came out in like 97 or 98. |
