780 mod 360 != 0. Sounds painful. [/ QUOTE ] Doesn't it sound about right, actually? El Diablo climbs to the top rope, in the corner above his prone opponent (in an approximately vertical position) incites the crowd, does two complete somersaults in mid air before landing - short of horizontal, so as to preserve El Diablo's spine - on top of his opponent in preparation for the fatal 3-count. Ole!!! |

[ QUOTE ] Even if my worst fears on the turn were correct (as they were), I still had two outs and the pot is attractive enough for me to call the turn hoping for the miracle river Yup, as long as you can get 15 bets out of him when the Jack hits. [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] ? |

Re: Jacked Up? The \"attractive Pot\"
Hey, I never said I am getting 22-1 on the turn call. I said the pot was attractive. It was not an 80 pot.
Also, I was NOT 100% sure I would NOT get a FREE SHOWDOWN here. I don't know what this guy put ME on, but obviously, he thought I had 9,3 offsuit or two overcards. |

Re: Jacked Up?
[ QUOTE ]
I discussed this hand with some well respected players today and someone made a very insightful and important point about folding the river for "one more bet" here. . What most people here realize is that someone calling a 4th bet on the flop and calling on the turn is pretty unlikely to fold the river. Any thinking opponent knows that if I am calling the turn, I am hard pressed to NOT throw in the 40 on the river. [/ QUOTE ] I also found a lot of merit in Barry Tanenbaum's comments about calling the turn and folding the river sometimes against thinking opponents. The key word being "thinking" -- not some idiot who cold-calls an early raise with 94o. Of course, you didn't know that until the hand was over. |

Re: Jacked Up? The \"attractive Pot\"
Again. I am not saying she shoould ever fold. I am merely saying that it can be correct to call the turn with a hand that has few or no outs and then fold the river when a blank comes. If you use game theory you might randomly fold 10% of the time in that spot. Against players you know it could be 100%. Even in a limit game.

Re: Jacked Up to SIn City
And....apparently Barry T and I are the ONLY TWO PLAYERS IN THE WORLD that fold the river here.

Re: Jacked Up?
Geez, why are you taking yet another swing at poor old Lee?
I do recall that the concept you talk about is referenced in one of your books. You were saying that the expert play you made was not the call on the turn (with a gutshot and ace overcard) but your willingness to fold if the other guy bet again on the river. The other guy after the river was somewhat relieved that he did not bet the river because once he saw your hand, he figured that having called the turn with a hand that did not warrant a call based on pot odds, you weren't in there just to fold on the river if you missed. In any event, El Diablo is well aware of the concept that you are talking about. He (among others including me) mentions the concept in a recent thread where Gabe and Clarkmeister were locking horns in a 40-80 hand. But I ask again: Why are you taking so many pot shots at Mr. Jones? ...and what the hell is Mr. 780? |
