Default Poker Rooms in Vegas

I've never played poker in Vegas and am visiting next week. Does anyone have any information, suggestions, tips, etc. on the the poker rooms there? I'm strictly a hold em, 3-6, 5-10, no-limit cash and tournament player. I'd like to maybe delve into some Omaha, Omaha hi-lo (low limit of course) since it seems like a fascinating game. Any information is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Bernie

There are 2 sites I would start with:

www.pokerpages.com
www.pokerupdate.com

Both have extensive card room directories for Vegas, and pokerpages also includes card rooms all over the world. I do believe though that pokerupdate is the most up to date site around for Vegas cardrooms. The only info they are missing is the info for the new room at the Golden Nugget.

I don't know about the Golden Nugget and a few other rooms, but the 6/12 at Mirage can be a good game, pretty loose and full of drunks when I was there. The Monte Carlo has low buy-in NL hold 'em on the weekends. Didn't play in it so I can't say how good it is. A couple of years ago I played in fun 4/8 games at the Luxor. Bellagio 4/8 (from 2 years ago) was ok, but seemed to be full of assholes who thought they were playing in the 500/1000 game across the room. Maybe those were just the tables that I sat at though.

If I was gonna be there, you'd see me in Mirage 6/12, 10/20 or 20/40 games. Pick your tables carefully though. If they seem too tough, do not hesitate to ask for a table change--there are plenty of good games in vegas if you can hold on to your bankroll long enough to find one.

I was in Vegas in March. I enjoyed the 3/6 at Mirage (nice room and casino). I thought the same thing as you of the people at the Bellagio when I watched 4/8 for a while there.

Default Palms NL is now 2-5

NL at the Palms is now 2 and 5 dollar blinds. Minimum buy-in $200 (i think) and max $500.

First time poster, just found these boards!

I on the contrary really enjoyed the Bellagio 4-8 game, probably because I was up several hundred. I think any cardroom will have its fair share of jerks. I always seem to be playing at a table with that one shrewd elderly local woman who wants to tell everyone how to play their cards. C'mon, everyone knows what I'm talking about, right? Even though I was up so much money, I wanted to leave because of one obnoxious local. Complained all the time. Chastised people when they drew out on her. She was even stacking up chips for the guy next to her after he won a big pot. But overall, I really liked Bellagio. Very classy.

I liked Mandalay Bay's 4-8 also. You don't have to post when you come in. Nice smallish room, although they're very strict about cellphone use since it's right next to the sportsbook. The minute I flipped open my phone, one of the guys ran over to me and asked me to leave immediately.

Luxor has 2-4 and 4-8, but I basically found it to be a no fold 'em hold em' game. Same with Excalibur. In my experience, these "lessor" casinos that have small poker rooms just attract all the newbies who will play and raise anything. Although it can be profitable, it can also be extremely frustrating.

My favorite rooms are the Mirage and the Bellagio. Not only because I seem to do the best there, but for one very important reason - they're both NON SMOKING. There is nothing more irritating than trying to concentrate on the game and some punk is blowing smoke right in your face.

I was at the Excaliber over the weekend. Apparently they just expanded their cardroom. They had 1-3 and 2-6 spread limit hold em, and $100 buy in NLHE w/ $1/$2 blinds.

I played in the 2-6 game, and found it pretty tight and boring. I also played in the 2-4 game at the Monte Carlo, which was tight and boring until I got drunk and went on tilt. The table loosened up a little, and I lost $50 bucks.
