Now I remember why I like NL
Since I’ve been posting tough losses here recently – I decided to post a play that worked
I dropped back to .25/.50 for a few. I’m in the CO with A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (stack 60.00) 3 callers I raise to 2.50 MP calls (stack 50.00) seems like a solid player the rest fold flop 6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] checked to me I bet 6.00 mp calls turn 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] giving me aces full mp bets 10.00 I call - I think I can afford to slow play here. River 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] MP bets 10.00 I raise to 30 MP calls with 3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] should I have pushed it all in on the river ? tks |

Re: Now I remember why I like NL
HI.
You can afford to slowplay on the turn, yes. No cards draw past your hand. Although while you can't be beat there are cards that may make the action freeze up. He bet the turn, indicating he's not drawing, he wont like to see a flush card, so raise him at the turn make the pot bigger and make him more likely to call the river. |

Re: Now I remember why I like NL
He had $50 on the flop. $6 on the flop, $10 on the turn, then he bets $10 on the river. That leaves him with $24 left, so you raise $20 more?
Yes, I would have put him all-in. There is no hand he calls for $20 but folds to $24. |

Re: Now I remember why I like NL
BTW, one of two things must be adjusted:
1. Your assessment of how solid this player is, or 2. Your assessment of what solid means. |

Re: Now I remember why I like NL
yes I meant to say "seemed" like a solid player until this hand. I had to pull the hand history to see the cards he played. I agree this is not the action of a solid player.
the stacks are not listed in the HH on this site and when the hand was finished I do remember he had just over 10.00 left so I guess his stack was actually 64.00. In my haste I did not do all the math. Usually I'll push it all in if I want to knock somebody off their draw and get them out of the pot, here I just wanted him to call as much as possible. I think he would have called all in as well. |

so raise him at the turn make the pot bigger and make him more likely to call the river
how much would you suggest raising here? |

Re: Now I remember why I like NL
Nothing more than to $30. Giving him a slim chance of getting away from it and giving him better calling odds on the river.

Re: Now I remember why I like NL
Quads would win, of course.
I like the idea of a min raise here, on the turn. He's unlikely not to call it, unless flying light and playing tight. Then the rest of his stack is likely yours on the river. Gives a chance to get it all. |
