Recovery Disk/ Reformat
I have an old laptop that has filled up with BS and viruses and spyware etc in my daughters room. I want to use the recovery disk to start from fresh.
It says to restart the computer and hit "esc" when the HP logo shows, but it is not coming up, any other way to get the computer to boot from the CD drive when it starts up? |

Re: Recovery Disk/ Reformat
Is the esc key supposed to enter the setup? or just boot from the CD rom? is there any other keys to enter setup, like F10 or F12 or F1 or anything like that?
What OS? |

Re: Recovery Disk/ Reformat
Have you tried changing the boot drives in the system BIOS? Restart your computer. During the startup script it will tell you to hit a button to enter BIOS, something like "Hit DEL key to enter BIOS".
Once the BOIS screen comes up, there should be a CMOS Settings or Advanced CMOS Settings that you can open. Look for a list that says "Boot Order" and change the first boot drive to the CD-ROM drive. Restart, and it will boot from the CD. MisterW |
