Default General questions about skins and networks

I'm not clear on the financial/business setup with skins.

There seem to be 2 sorts of networks. Those with a main site ie party and those where all sites are skins with a parent company in charge. I assume skins pay the main site or parent company for the right to run there site.

What kind of accountability do the skins have to the main company? If a skin went under and players lost money wouldn't that hurt the name of the main site? Wouldn't this mean that the integrity of the skin was in their interests even though they are not directly resposible?

The problem with skins is the traffic of the network masks the performance of the skin. There could be only 2 players on a skin and it be great financial difficulties but I wouldn't know. Does presence of a network lessen the risk to my money at all.

I don't know anything about this important subject so any info will be good.

Thanks
James
