Can I assume that your group has a permit. [/ QUOTE ] I will assume that you don't know what a Libertarian is... it would be pretty ironic if a Libertarian actually applied for a permit to hold a rally or protest. |

Like it or not its illegal in NYC. Should the drug dealers get their confiscated money or cars or homes back? Greg [/ QUOTE ] yes. seizure of all property "associated with" or "touched by" a drug offense is an outrageously overreaching punishment. one crime, one sentence, same for everyone. total forfeiture is authoritarianism. |

However many times the issue is explained, some people remain obtuse. Playing poker in NYC is NOT ILLEGAL. Let that sink in. The police keep saying it--believe them!
Imagine, as a thought exercise, you were playing on the night the clubs were raided. You approach a cop and say: Officer, I have eight hundred sixty-three dollars in chips. May I have a receipt for my money? You are making a perfectly reasonable request. As you have committed no crime--and nobody thinks you have--the confiscation of your cash is highly unreasonable. But they do have guns and you can't stop them. If their actions were legitimate, why on earth would they refuse to issue receipts? Any transaction in which the party surrendering some form of property can't routinely obtain a receipt is suspect. We can assume that someone is getting screwed. It blows my mind that poker players can continually overlook and--inexplicably--attempt to rationalize away these outrages. Cops are stealing your money. Why can't you grasp that? |

"Cops are stealing your money. Why can't you grasp that?"
As to why these raids occur, that is the reason: money. For the NYPD or individual officers. The only reason the police do these raids is for the cash. The NYPD will either raid your club or extract payments voluntarily. |
