Work Takes Up Too Much Time
Am I alone in feeling this way? I feel that work takes up so much time here in America. I spend 40 hours at work...which doesn't include lunch (which I might as well take since I must show up at 8 and leave at 5). I spend half an hour each way to get to work, so that's another 5 hours and I spend 40 minutes each day getting ready for work...so that's another 3 hours and 20 minutes. Now, I'm up to 53 hours and 20 minutes. Now, I also am supposed to find the time to work out (5 hours/wk), sleep 56 hours a week (which never happens), spend time with friends and family and pursue activities that I truly enjoy (poker, anyone?).
Now, just between work and sleep (109 hours, 20 minutes), I have spent the vast majority of my time for the week. The rest of the time is divided between household duties, errands, paying bills, friends, family, etc. This seems like not enough time for me to pursue my interests. I can't even go to a movie anymore without thinking how much time it is costing me. |

Re: Work Takes Up Too Much Time
sorry thats life...you have to work to get money, if you don't like the commute, move closer, but you still have 58 hours and 40 minutes to do what ever...if you hate your job that much...quit and play poker full-time...if you're good enough.

Re: Work Takes Up Too Much Time
I've done it and I did well at it for several months. I survived but my expenses are much higher now, so I will have to play a lot higher to survive. I also know that poker can be a cruel mistress and an even crueler occupation. The variance can kick you for a long time. That said, I've done better than 1BB/hr in live play for a long time now. I would have to play 20/40 or higher to get ahead and that's going to take $40K+ in savings/bankroll to provide adequate insurance against going broke.
I miss it a lot though. I used to love going to "work" everyday. I had to "limit" myself to 40 hours. |

[ QUOTE ]
you have to work to get money [/ QUOTE ] If you believe this - then this is how life will be for you. If you don't believe this - then life may be different for you. Many people do not work to get money. So, apparently this is not a law of the universe, it must be a situation that varies from person to person. Once you know that working is not a universal law, you are then free to look for alternatives. You can play for money, you can marry into money, you can inherit money, you can steal money, you can reduce your expenses to zero, and on and on and on. You might even come up with a new original idea that will work just for you and nobody else. But as long as you believe you must work - than that is what you must do. You don't have to change the world. You just have to change your belief system. |

Re: Work Takes Up Too Much Time
The sad thing is that's part of the American Dream. Believe it or not our people have fought hard to obtain that right in which you (and others including myself) can't stand.
Ironic I guess. |
