What is the best printer for the value under $400?

I'm in the market for a new printer and was wondering if anyone can provide me with some direction as to what's the best out there right now. Thanks!

It depends what you want to use it for (speed, quality, color etc), but you can get a hp color laserjet for $400 these days.

I've always had good luck with hp. I'd avoid Canon unless you're interested in flaky driver problems.

Can you provide more information? What do you want to use the printer for? The choice of printer will vary greatly depending on the need. For example, for speed with little concern for quality then you can get a laser printer. If you are a photoshop freak then the epson800 is the only way to go. If you are looking for a nice balance then the ip4000 or 5000 from canon is awesome for around $150. It is fast, can do nice photoes, bleed to edge, and can double side printing.
