[ QUOTE ] I think SB has a lower J here, if he really is a rock. [/ QUOTE ] Two cards, plus explanation, please, IF he's not bluffing. [/ QUOTE ] OK I'm going with the Ax [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] |

Re: Very cool AJs hand (plus hand reading)
[ QUOTE ]
I figure that villain is bluffing. I'm prepared to call a three-bet. [/ QUOTE ] Even if you DON'T think villian is bluffing, shouldn't this be an easy call of a 3-bet? His raise makes 19BB in the pot, meaning you need to win this hand 5% of the time to make that call profitable. You call no matter what you put him on. |

Re: Very cool AJs hand (plus hand reading)
[ QUOTE ]
I've been at this table for a long time, but it's the villain's first orbit. -- Party Poker 0.5/1 Hold'em (9 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is MP2 with J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. CO posts a blind of $0.5. This is the weirdest action that I've seen in a long time (in a hand that I've participated in). I figure that villain is bluffing. I'm prepared to call a three-bet. How's my play? For a fun hand-reading exercise, if the villain isn't bluffing, and isn't tricky, what does he have? --Dave. [/ QUOTE ] That play matches a J6s that wants to be aggressive, but keeps scaring himself into believing you have a better jack (which you do, but he doesn't really know that). I would be highly amused if that were actually right, but I can't imagine any other jack donking around with a double stop and go. If you figure villain is bluffing, why raise? If he's bluffing, he's folding to a raise. Now if you think he's value betting a hand worse than yours, a raise makes much more sense, because you expect him to actually call. |

Re: Very cool AJs hand (plus hand reading)
I'd say QJs or JTs would be my first guess if he's not a total idiot.

That play matches a J6s that wants to be aggressive, but keeps scaring himself into believing you have a better jack (which you do, but he doesn't really know that). I would be highly amused if that were actually right, but I can't imagine any other jack donking around with a double stop and go. [/ QUOTE ] Firstly, you're right: Jack-six... f-ing jack-six! The more I think about this, the more I think that J6s is a great read: fish are much more likely to play J6s than J6, and everyone else is almost definitely not going to play J6o. I can just picture this: Him: "Oh cool, I paired up. Is my hand good?" Me: "No, I raise." Him: "Ok." Him: "Wow, three-of-a-kind... that's like really high up there in the poker charts. Is my hand good now?" Me: "No!" Him: "Hmm... Ok." Him: "Oh my god, full house, that's like, huge, right?" Me: "No; no, it's not." Him: "Wow, you must have a really good hand. I call." Yes, he called with J6... Hey, sometimes I might raise the entire field with J8. ... Just checked PT, and he had J6o. [ QUOTE ] If you figure villain is bluffing, why raise? If he's bluffing, he's folding to a raise. Now if you think he's value betting a hand worse than yours, a raise makes much more sense, because you expect him to actually call. [/ QUOTE ] I thought that he was representing the flush (bluffing), but that he did have a jack, meaning that he would be willing to call my raise. Probably the funniest thing was that he was thinking for a few moments before he called, and I said, out loud, "There's NO way you have jack-six!" He called and I yelled out, "Oh my god! I can't believe that! That's just not right!" --Dave. |
