Re: Poker - still enjoying the game, or just enjoying the money?
Poker is my competitive outlet. Its a personal challenge, where you are responsible over time for your results.
Its a very complicated game, and improving your game is not a straightforward process. There are consequences that matter to playing badly. I play about 15,000 hands a month, and work full-time. I really don't think much about the money itself, although its nice. |

Well, I'm playing two 0,5/1 tables and losing so maybe I just like the challenge!

Re: Poker - still enjoying the game, or just enjoying the money?
I hate the game. Four - five years ago it was exciting but now it is hard to play for more than an hour. Strange though, I've played hockey all my life and I still love every second of it, I wonder why I despise poker so much?!

Well...
I enjoy the game a lot more when I'm winning.
I don't know if I love the game like I once did... as a hobby it's kinda dull... but compared to a real job it is wonderful. |

Re: Poker - still enjoying the game, or just enjoying the money?
In my day job I am a film/video producer, and I feel about my career the same way I feel about poker. It started out as a passion ("I wanna make movies!!!"), and although over time it has become "just a job," it's still the best job I can ever imagine having.
When I got interested in poker, it was a thrilling new experience for me. And although at this point it has lost some of that magic, the fact that I can make a decent side income from this "hobby" makes it a very enjoyable and worthwhile way to spend my spare time. But I'll be the first to admit that the greatest pleasure I get from poker at this point is adding new digits to the "total winnings" column on my poker spreadsheet.....oh, and also telling my strict Southern Baptist mother how much I am profiting from my degenerate gambling habits every week. I am such a bad son..... |

Re: Poker - still enjoying the game, or just enjoying the money?
after grinding low limit games for 4 years, I know one thing for sure.....I never want to do this full time. With all the variance, it would be extremely stressfull for me to depend on this as my only means of support over the long haul. Plus there is no denying the 'boredom' factor with sitting out 85% of the time.
'grinding' is a very appropriate poker term. |

Re: Poker - still enjoying the game, or just enjoying the money?
I am playing online for a couple of months and I still enjoy it very much. But it's so much more fun when winning a lot! I don't know if this is the money, it could also be a great feeling that you beat all the other players
