2-4 party: Flopping flush, board paired river
Hi,
recently switched from limit to NL cashgame. Thought the following hand was quite interesting, and would like comments on all streets. Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (10 handed) converter UTG ($475) UTG+1 ($280) UTG+2 ($506.2) MP1 ($293.2) MP2 ($605.3) MP3 ($649) Hero ($386.6) Button ($406.2) SB ($192) BB ($866) Preflop: Hero is CO with Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $2. UTG calls $4, 2 folds, MP1 calls $4, MP2 calls $4, 1 fold, Hero calls $4, 1 fold, SB (poster) completes, BB checks. Flop: ($24) 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (6 players) SB checks, BB checks, UTG checks, MP1 checks, MP2 bets $20, Hero calls $20, SB folds, BB folds, UTG folds, MP1 folds. Turn: ($64) A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) MP2 bets $40, Hero raises to $100, MP2 calls $60. River: ($264) A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) MP2 checks, Hero checks. Final Pot: $264 |

Re: 2-4 party: Flopping flush, board paired river
You played this like a limit hand, lol.
Some comments: 1) You can pop this up preflop with all the limpers to build a pot with a nice drawing hand in position. 2) I like the smooth call on the flop 3) Make a bigger raise on the turn. $150 straight sounds about right 4) Value bet the river for $200 or so given that you made it $150 to go on the turn - checking behind becomes an option if you made a bigger raise on the turn that got called (on the order of $200 or so) |

Re: 2-4 party: Flopping flush, board paired river
Thanks for det comments!
My first thought was also that I should have raised more on the turn. I don't feel good about betting 200 on the river. Do you think enough worse hands will call here? |

Re: 2-4 party: Flopping flush, board paired river
I think checking behind is the right play. I mean the highest heart left is the ten. What could he possibly call a river bet with?
I think if you bet, he either folds or raises you if he has a boat. I think a bet is -EV there. |

Re: 2-4 party: Flopping flush, board paired river
I like a pot bet on the turn. This way when the villain pops you, you can get your full stack in on the turn. I think he pays off with any small flush, a set and maybe two pair, given that this line is often taken with a of hearts. The only hand that can beat you is an ace high flush, which is unlikely on the turn. Checking the river is fine though maybe a small value bet could be inorder/folding to a raise. People will call with lots of random crap.

Re: 2-4 party: Flopping flush, board paired river
Raise a little more on the turn to make it wrong for the Ah to call. You're not likely to get much more action at $100 than you are at $140.
You can value bet the river against a passive opponent who will payoff with any heart and won't move you off the best hand often (note: there are lots of players in this category). Checking behind a tough, tricky, aggressive player is an excellent choice. Good luck. Eric |

Re: 2-4 party: Flopping flush, board paired river
Biggest mistake is the raise to $100 on the turn, as others have pointed out played just like limit. I think that you should raise it to $200. It's a big raise, probably slightly more than the pot, but if you have a set calling you and he misses his boat on the river he may feel commited to call again anyway. Since it's Party I wouldn't put it past a set to call a bet like that, and this way you entice your opponent to make a big mistake.

Thanks for all good replies.
For the record, he had 66 for the flopped set and full house on river. |
