The thing to keep in mind is that boys want to be like other boys, but girls want to be unique. That's why we all go with the black tuxedo, while they panic if one woman shows up wearing the same dress.

So with girls, go with unique, but don't go overboard--nobody wants a name they need to spell more than they say. Especially if they've already got a LAST NAME they need to spell for everybody.

I've got 2 girls. I always wanted to name a little girl Cosette, but that rhymes with my last name, so it would sound silly.

My oldest is named Monica (after the prettiest girl in my high school, but don't tell my wife that--and two months after she was born, that Lewinsky slut ruined the name for all of us. How many of you read the word "Monica" here, and immediately thought "Lewinsky"? Which immediately led to "c*ck-s*cking slut"?).

My other daughter is named Gabrielle. Unique, and flows with her French-sounding last name.

white trash names usually start with "mc" or have some sort of wistful but still rustic american kind of sound to it. i think peyton for a girl and dakota for a boy are pretty good examples.

ivy doesn't have any rustic/americana roots, doesn't have any pseudo-elegance. i live in missouri and i have never encountered a girl named ivy, so that's a very reasonable check off of the white trash list because i've seen most of them. with my last name (intensely german) i don't see any chance for ivy to be perceived as white trash.

my girls are Kara, Grace, Olivia, and Maggie.

Now be honest. Did you plan on having 4 kids, or were you just trying for a boy?

[/ QUOTE ]

the first 3 were IVF babies...we asked the doctor for 2. he says," we'll put in 3 eggs, because the likelyhood is that at least 1 will not grow." the first ultrasound revealed twins...yeah. the 2nd revealed the other one hiding. not a good feeling.

as for the 4th, since my wife was unable to conceive naturally, there was no need for contraception. oops! after the birth, her tubes, which were supposedly scarred so bad an egg couldn't make it to the promised land, were officially tied.

after all this, i had to drop $15 last month for an early pregnancy test. negative results....priceless.

cheers!

It's Payton, actually named for Walter Payton. I still don't see how it sounds white trash though. I had a dog named Dakota when i was a kid.

wistful/rustic american. it sounds like a gillmore girls (isn't that the one that advertises the adventures of RORY and LAURALI) name.

your perception of white trash will always have to do with your experienec and since everyone is from different places with different experiences then everyone's definition of "white trash" is going to be different.
