Two different times tonight I was faced with the AK predicament. The first time, the blinds were low in comparison to my stack size.
Do you push or fold? Both depend a great deal on the type of player you're against. In $10+1, I imagine you will face players who will push with mid-pairs and Aq, Aj, etc., but I still probably fold. It's early, no point in riskin half of your stack, you aren't pot committed, wait for a better time. The second time, I will almost always push, unless the guy i'm against is just a total rock. You are the short stack at the table, you need to get some chips, and AKs is too good to pass up in my opinion...

I fold this first hand it's too early and a limp/reraise screams big pair to me.
The second hand depends on what type of player UTG is. If he is extremely tight I may fold, otherwise I push. |

FWIW - at Stars $20 or $30 I instamuck hand 1. The range of hands that does this is pretty small. Maybe its different at the party 10+1's but even so, I've got to think you not a favorite to a weighted average range of hands that limp reraise allin. For example, if he's got AA-JJ and AK-AQ you've only got 45% pot equity. I think the range of hands that do this is actually smaller.
Hand 2 I push. |

i agree with the given advice. Id personally re-raise with AKsuited... I would assume you have him. And i might go ahead and assume the other guy is holding something that puts you at an advantage rather than 10s or some other pocket.

I've actually seen all sorts of crazy stuff turned over in this situation. 22, JQs, AJ, A6, J5 (if you'll believe that...). In fact, I can't remember the last time on party I saw a limp re-raiser turn over AA or KK. I have seen a couple of QQs recently, but there ya go.
Anyway, hand 1, despite the crap that I see get turned over, I am still not sure how I act. I might call and I might fold depending on the few things I've seen up to this point. With absolutely no information, I am leaning fold, but if I had a sudden urge I'd call. I think you see where I'm going with this. The second hand is unquestionably going to involve putting all your chips in preflop. Relative size of blinds to stack makes all the difference really. |

Hand 1 depends on how badly your average $10+1 Stars player plays. If your average Stars player turns over AT-AK, 66+, and KQ, it's an easy call. If your average stars player turns over AA-JJ, and AK-AQ, fold.
Hand 2 is a really easy push, whichever way you look at it. |

#1 fold - most likely it is a coin toss, maybe AA or KK. I wouldn't want to gamble in this spot.
#2 push |

I pretty much agree with the general feeling.
There are times in a $10+1 that I would just call with the second one and check raise if I hit and check fold if I didn't. Those times would involve a high idiot quotient on the table and some very aggressive idiots. Lori |
