On their website, it says "structured games." Woohoo! No more 2-5 spread?
Anyway, I know I saw someone post on here that they were going to be dealing there. I can't remember where. When is the poker room going to be open, or is it already? Stud and omaha too, right? Looking forward to it. |

Web site says it will open in "mid March", so I'm guessing in a week or two. They are advertising "low limit structured games". I don't know if this means 2.50/5.00, 2/4 or 1/2. I'd like to see a 2.50/5.00 structured game. The best way to do that IMO, would be to have $1.25 chips. You could also do it with $2.50 chips and $1 chips, with a $2 or $3 small blind, but making change would probably slow the game down. Of course, I'd really like to see the $5 limit done away with, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen any time soon. Maybe if the Indians get their casino, the Blackhawk folks will try to get their limits raised.

The Gilpin Poker Room will officially open on this Thursday, March 10th. By Colorado standards, this room is going to be huge (meaning very successful, not "big").
A couple of cool notes: this room is on its own floor of the casino. There will be NO SLOTS or VP machines at all...you will not hear one slot machine dinging away endlessly. Nothing but the sweet sounds of riffling chips and the game on the numerous plasma TV's. The poker room will have it's own bar, cocktail waitresses, food service and rest rooms. Good free food, not just gut bomb chili like a few other rooms around here. Half of the room will be non-smoking (may go all non-smoking if there's demand for it). The casino spent $2 Million building this room. We finished assembling the tables today. We will be spreading Holdem, Omaha and 7 Stud, plus daily tourneys. We have 16 tables installed now with 5 more planned. Holdem: 1/2 - $20 min. buy in. One $1.00 blind. $1 bets before and on the flop, $2 bets thereafter. 1/2 5-5 - $50 min. buy in, $1 small blind and $2 big blind, all bets are then $5 (complete preflop to $5). We expect this to be a HUGE game. All other $5 games in Colorado are 5/5, meaning two $5 blinds (WTF is that?). The 1/2 5-5 structure will save players $35 or so per hour in blinds. 2/4 - $30 min. buy in. $1 small and $2 big blind. $2 bet before and after the flop, $4 bets thereafter. Omaha High/Low (8 or Better): 2/4 - $1 small and $2 big blind. $2 bets before and after the flop, $4 bets thereafter. 7 Stud: 2/4 - $30 min. buy in, 50 cent ante, $1 for the bring in, complete to $2. If there is a pair on 4th street any player can bet $2 or $4. $4 on all other streets. Tourneys: There will be tourneys every single day. Every Friday - "Big Boy" tourney. $450 buy in (might go to $500...we'll see). SNG's every day, all day. For the Grand Opening, there will be a $50,000 guaranteed payout for a $150 buy-in. Very cool structure to this tourney. Beat out 9 players, you double up. Come up to the room Thursday or Friday to get all the details. Come up tomorrow or Wednesday to check the room out if you want - we're friendly. BAD BEAT JACKPOT: Aces full of eights to qualify. 3 Aces on the board QUALIFIES and both hole cards must play. So if there are 3 Aces on the board and you got pocket T's and Joe Blow has pocket 9's, you hit it. Rather generous BB structure IMHO. It will hit pretty often, but the jackpots will be smaller. Forward Moving Button: I prefer this to the "dead button" since it's more fair, but to each his own. We will employ the Forward Moving Button Rule - the only room in CO to do this. We are very excited to get this room open. Our "Employee Tourney" is on Wednesday. We officially open on Thursday. Come on up this weekend and check it out. Feel free to PM me with any other questions. Spread the word and see ya there! |

[ QUOTE ]
Good free food, not just gut bomb chili like a few other rooms around here. [/ QUOTE ] Or nothing, which is what Mountain High now serves. They used to be my favorite room in Blackhawk, but no food really annoys me. [ QUOTE ] 1/2 5-5 - $50 min. buy in, $1 small blind and $2 big blind, all bets are then $5 (complete preflop to $5). We expect this to be a HUGE game. All other $5 games in Colorado are 5/5, meaning two $5 blinds (WTF is that?). The 1/2 5-5 structure will save players $35 or so per hour in blinds. [/ QUOTE ] This doen't seem like it's a huge change from 2-5 spread, except for the extra blind. If I understand correctly, the first preflop raise would be a completion to $5 and subsequent raises $5. I kind of like the option to make it $7 preflop in 2-5. I would still like to see a $2.50/5.00 structured with $1.25 chips. It would be good for dealers, too, as most folks would probably tip $1.25 instead of $1.00. I like that your experimenting with different structures. [ QUOTE ] 7 Stud: 2/4 - $30 min. buy in, 50 cent ante, $1 for the bring in, complete to $2. If there is a pair on 4th street any player can bet $2 or $4. $4 on all other streets. [/ QUOTE ] Same structure as Paradise. Very good. Will this be high or 8? I prefer high, BTW. $1/$2 doesn't excite me much. Also, the rake is going to be a killer at that limit. OTOH, those game should be really fishy. I will definitely check it out, possibly this weekend. I'm not sure wheter I would play 2/4 or 5 with $1/2 blinds. I like structured limit games, but the 5 will certainly have bigger pots. [ QUOTE ] Forward Moving Button: [/ QUOTE ] Is this the rule where, if the seat that would have gotten the button is vacated, the button moves to the next occupied seat and he posts an extra blind? If so, Midnight Rose in Cripple Creek uses this rule, or did the last time I played there a few months ago. Everybody in Black Hawk/Central City uses the Dead Button, AFIK. One more question: What will the rake and BB drop be? |

(regarding the 1/2 5-5 Game) This doen't seem like it's a huge change from 2-5 spread, except for the extra blind.
It's not that different. The powers that be said the idea was to make it closer to the 5/5 game at the Lodge and the others because many players up here like the action at the 5/5 game. I think a 5/5 game with a lower blind will go over big. (regarding 7 Stud) Will this be high or 8? I prefer high, BTW. To start, it will be high only. If there's demand for 8, we'll do it. (regarding the Forward Moving Button) Is this the rule where, if the seat that would have gotten the button is vacated, the button moves to the next occupied seat and he posts an extra blind? If the seat that should get the button is vacated, the button moves to the next player, who would have had the SB. That player now posts the SB and has the button. The player to his left is still the BB, but the player to his left (UTG) ALSO posts a big blind. I won't go into the whole explanation...but go to HERE to see a pretty good explanation of the FMB. What will the rake and BB drop be? For Stud and Omaha: no jackpot rake at all. $1 rake at $10, $20, $30 and $100. For 2/4 Holdem: $1 rake at $10 and $20, only a jackpot rake of $1 at $30, rake of $1 at $40, and $1 rake at $100. FOr 1/2 5-5 Holdem: $1 rake at $10 and $20, only a jackpot rake of $1 at $30, rake of $1 at $40, and $1 rake at $100 and $1 jackpot rake at $100. |
