i don't fully understand what constitutes VPIP (which i assume is the equivalent stat to answer this question), but i thought SSH said that you should be playing around %25 of the hands in general loose small stakes games.

Voluntarily Put Money ($) In the Pot - Checking in the big blind is putting money in the pot "involuntarily" (unless you call a raise) so playing 25% of hands can be done with a < 20% VP$IP since you're in the big blind 10% of the time and preflop raising is frequently rare in low limit games.
